When I was living in a country which was ruled by an Islamic monarchy, I fully expected the media to spout the official line. And, indeed, it did. The radio, TV, Arabic press and English press - all parroted what the monarchy and the religious establishment dictated. There was no variation.
And now, living in my own country, which prides itself on "diversity," I find that there is no longer much diversity left in what the media throw out to the general public for "news." In many respects, I sometimes feel as if Pravda has been resurrected and Americanized.
The shame and tragedy of Benghazi could not have come at a worse time for an administration seeking reelection. Accordingly, the internal review board "investigating" what happened at Benghazi did its best to conceal and whitewash culpability for what was obviously a blunder of titanic proportions. Feigning illness, the normally overbearing and opportunistic Hillary Rodham Clinton did not even attend scheduled hearings on the mess.
Comically, efforts at the highest levels, aided and abetted by leftest elements in the major media outlets which sought to hoodwink the electorate into continuing in power an incompetent administration, strained any shred of credibility in attaching the blame for Benghazi to an idiotic film, which we were told to believe sparked violent & spontaneous demonstrations in Libya. U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice was trotted out as a mouthpiece for the government, and very promptly demonstrated ignorance about what actually transpired.
OUR SLAIN AMBASSADOR
Despite Rice's anemic version of the truth of Benghazi, the pro-administration media did yeoman work in holding the lid on what actually took place. Now, more than seven months after the fact, "whistle-blowers" who have risked their careers and endured threats from the highest levels are poised to expose the cover-up and reveal what was behind the failure of our State Department to proactively deal with the matter in a way that could possibly have saved American lives. Was it more important to this administration, which was politically exploiting the Abbottabad raid to the fullest, to continue to create the illusion of a successful anti-terrorism policy than to come to the aid of beleaguered Americans? Were administration officials so fearful of what the truth could have portended for reelection efforts that they concealed the appalling facts behind the deaths of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Glenn Doherty and Tyrone Woods?
In a society so overwhelmed by celebrity status, there is invariably a predisposition of the electorate to perpetuate certain families in power. One of those families is known by the surname of Clinton, a clan that has certainly been known to obscure some of its less savory undertakings. Stay tuned, dear readers. We may be looking at an epitaph-in-the-making for the presidential aspirations of one Hillary Rodham Clinton.
